Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews where we share the books we are adding to our shelves each week.

I wasn't planning on participating on any one of the many book haul memes, because I generally don't buy books every week. I tend to buy in bulk about once a month. But since my blog is new and I've actually been buying books since it's Summer, I'll be participating for now!

Bought: Here are the books I've bought in the 3 weeks since my exams ended.

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
The Gathering Dark by Leigh Bardugo
Eon by Alison Goodman
The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Stolen by Lucy Christopher
Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore
For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund

eBook
(Digital copy) This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers

Received: I just finished 2 weeks of work experience at Random House, and I loved it! I'll be posting about my experience soon. I was in the non-fiction department, and they gave me these lovely books to take home, including a cookbook that looks amazing. I don't read a lot of non-fiction, so thank you, Ebury!

Far Eastern Odyssey by Rick Stein: a cookbook covering far East Asian cuisine! The recipes look soo good.

Charlotte Street by Danny Wallace: 'a heartwarming everyday tale of boy stalks girl'... one of the Random House employees compared it to Nick Hornby, so I'm really looking forward to reading it!

Our Garden Birds by Matt Sewell: a really adorable, tiny book filled with cute drawings of birds and descriptions! I didn't think I would like this but I do!

Shark's Fin & Sichuan Pepper by Fuchsia Dunlop: a travel/food memoir of Fuchsia Dunlop's experiences living and eating in China!

I Left My Tent in San Francisco by Emma Kennedy: a travel memoir that's supposed to be really funny of Emma Kennedy's 'disastrous attempts to cross the USA in the 80s'.

What books did you get this week? I'd love to see your book haul!

    1. Hehe I bought the ebook because I couldn't wait for it to come out in the UK! Which was a mistake, because it was so good that now I wish I had a physical copy...

  8. If you haven't read them yet - you should give Chima's The Seven Realms series a try, they're so good! I really enjoyed Cinder and I have to read my copy of Immortal Rules and Shadow & Bone soon. I really REALLY want to read Bitterblue!!! Happy reading! :)

    1. Gahh I'm dying to read The Seven Realms series. That's actually why I bought The Warrior Heir. They didn't have The Seven Realm series in stock so it was my back-up!

Bitterblue was really good, but I felt like lacked the same spark that Graceling and Fire had. Maybe because it was so depressing? Might do a review of it soon. :) But let me know if you read it! I checked out your STS and thanks so much for the SYNC tip! I'll definitely be downloading them.

  9. For Darkness Shows the Stars!! I'm still debating on whether or not it's a buy-worthy book because I read the first few chapters and wasn't too sure, but I'm really looking forward to reading more reviews on it so I can finalize my decision soon. :) And both Cinder and This is Not a Test were such amazing reads for me -- I loved them both to the core! Excited for Bitteblue too ;)

Awesome book stack this week! I hope you enjoy them all! :) <3

    1. It wasn't perfect, but I LOVED IT! I reviewed it here if that helps. :) I really hope you decide to get it!

YES, both of those were so great, and so was Bitterblue. I can't wait to get to the others I haven't read yet! Thank you!

  10. Dyyyyying to read For Darkness Shows the Stars, hearing GREAT things about it - and that cover is divine! I'm glad you liked Cinder, that's definitely one of my favourites of the year! Have you read Shadow and Bone (The Gathering Dark) yet? I've got it but not read it yet, and I hear I'm stupid for putting it off because its so fantastic haha. I got a finished copy of This is Not A Test at ALA, and while I'n not big on zombies, i can't wait to read this one!

Happy reading, and thanks for stopping by my super sad, sorry excuse of a Stacking the Shelves post haha. Also, thanks for chiming in about my dilemma of discussing ALA books acquired - I agree with what you said, as long as it's reading/promotion then it should be ok. Hopefully I can convey that's my intent in my post! (And you were right, the second book is Stormdancer!)

    1. It was sooo good! The cover is beautiful, but actually kind of disappointing in person because the image is sort of low-resolution and almost blurry. :/ On my copy at least. It ends up looking rather cheap, like I could have printed it myself. But whatever, still a great book. :)

I did read Shadow and Bone! It was really good; read it asap! I def don't think you'll be disappointed. And hehe no problem; I'm jealous that you went to ALA! Hope you enjoy those amazing books, and I'm looking forward to some great ARC reviews. :)
